1,000 Nevada Mustangs Targeted for Roundup and Removal by BLM: Act by May 21

The comment deadline for this roundup is now closed. The Bureau of Land Management’s (BLM’s) is accepting comments through Sunday May 23 on the latest proposed mass round up — 1,000 Nevada mustangs living in the Owyee, Rock Creek and Little Humboldt HMA’s are targeted for permanent removal beginning in July 2010. See sample letter below. In northeastern Nevada, just south of the Owyee Desert, lives a population of wild horses who are descendants of Cavalry re-mounts and 19th century ranch horses. The latest news from the BLM’s Fallon holding facility, where more than 1,700 Calico horses await their fate. The death toll from the Bureau of Land Management’s (BLM’s) Calico, Nevada wild horse roundup is rapidly approaching 100, as 12 more horses have perished in the month and a half since we issued our report on the true cost of this largest and most controversial BLM roundup in years.
