The
World Speaks Out For An American Icon

Australia
To whoever is responsible and can help repair, I'm not a U.S. citizen
but please hear me anyway. I grew up with romantic notions of the American
mustang. In my young imagination the wild horses represented something,
a kind of freedom I knew I would never achieve because of the world we
live in. I have no idea why America chose a bald eagle as their symbol,
to me the wild horse seems a much better candidate. To sacrifice these
iconic animals to private interests is a sad reflection of our time, of
our zeitgeist, and will not speak well of us to our great grandchildren.
Of course some of these horses are 'unadoptable', that is their essence.
Do we really think that a spirit which can't be broken should be destroyed?
What does that say about us on a broader basis? They are 'unadoptable'
because they are mustangs, let them live as they were meant to live. And
please consider that in a lot of these seemingly small and 'pragmatic'
changes to legislation, you are killing the spirit of, the very best thing
about, your Nation. You are leading the way for the rest of us, and the
terrain is getting uglier by the day.
Great Britain
The USA places great value on Freedom - surely the wild horses are a symbol
of Freedom for the whole world. One day I'd like to come visit and see
mustangs running wild where they're meant to be, but I won't come over
to see yet more cattle: Don’t lose this embodiment of free spirit
that is part of your country’s heritage.
India
America is supposed to stand for freedom. To do this goes against everything
America stands for.
Italy
The history of America was written on a horse's back - is this your gratefulness?
Don't steal our children the choice to see the wonder of a free wild horse.
Kuwait
When the wild horse is gone, there will be nothing left to show for all
the pioneers who created the United States. Is this the way to show how
much value the government places on your heritage?
Netherlands
America will not be the same without wild horses. Start thinking about
what the actions you are taking at the moment will mean in the future.
Finland
Respect what you still have now, and save that treasure for future generations.
Thank you.
Japan
Please! Save the wild horses!!!
France
What happened to “Land of the Free”? America the Beautiful
is about wild horses and bald eagles roaming the Great Plains and the
open skies. Why on earth would you want your beautiful heritage to end
up on the plates of some snob Parisians?
Mexico
It's too cruel to be true... Wild horses represent freedom.
Czech Republic
This is one of America’s symbols, so please let them live!
Slovenia
Please save the mustangs!
Canada
Save our wild horses. They are not just an American link to history, they
are our North American heritage.
Poland
Do not destroy one of the last symbols of freedom left in the world.
Spain
Wild Horses are an integral part of the American culture, heritage and
landscape. They should be protected.
Argentina
Shame... Shame…
Germany
I always believed that the national parks and preserving the wild was
one of the more brilliant American achievements. Now this proves me wrong...
how enormously disappointing...
South
Africa
There is nothing as mystical and beautiful as a wild horse and America
should be proud of these magnificent animals. Leave them in the wild as
they are meant to be.
Sweden
I implore Congress not to cut down such beauty and strong symbol of freedom
as these horses represent. Please don’t commit an act that cannot
be reversed and where the loss will be so great it cannot be measured.
Turkey
The whole world is paying for this kind of disregard for nature’s
intuitions.
New Zealand
I thought the spirit of the West was the American Wild Horse. Please conserve
them, don’t destroy them. History should not have to repeat itself.
Romania
They are your National Treasure!! Do not slaughter the living history
of your country!
Thailand
Please protect the wild horses.
Zimbabwe
Stop
looking for excuses for stealing them from their homes.
